We recently planted our first garden! Our church has a garden plot where members can sign up for some space and we were excited to give it a go.
We planted potatos, onions, bell peppers, spinach, kale, cucumbers, and tomatoes. We chose these particular vegetables because we eat them on a regular basis. Our go-to meals are veggie tacos, stir fries, salads and soups.
This week we saw the potatoes and kale popping up.
Not sure what happened to the spinach! We are sure we’ve made some rookie mistakes, but we’re committed to seeing it through. Next year we’ll build on what we learn this year. Luckily we have some fantastic friends who’ve given us a few tips.
We hope a garden can become a regular part of our life over the years. We love the thought of growing our own food and someday teaching our children where food comes from. We imagine ourselves working with our children in the garden, weeding and watering the plants, showing them how consistency and hard work over time bring rewards.
Until then we’ll try to live what we’ll one day teach. Here’s to trying new things and yummy food to come!
